about

Established in 2004, rednile Projects is an artist led initiative providing opportunities to artists (including its founders) in the form of residencies, exhibitions, talks, workshops and exhibitions. rednile grew out the artists/founders need for studio space to continue their art practice after graduation and from a realisation that art/creative opportunities had to exist within Sunderland in order to retain graduates from the area. A cultural community could then begin to develop.

Up to this point, rednile has been project-based, primarily collaborating with local business and using disused spaces to run their events. The rednile artist/founders find working in temporary locations in the Sunderland City and now further a field, more exciting and representative of the ephemeral nature of cities, regeneration and fuel the founders ’ artistic interests.

rednile has contracted and paid over 40 artists in various roles and provided work placements, mentorships and opportunities to writers, photographers, designers and students.

rednile projects engages with contemporary art in its broadest sense, encouraging professionalism and collaboration in the arts and are committed to engaging others in the exploration and enjoyment of art.
