ARTCASTJune 2007 A collaborative, art project between rednile Projects Ltd. (Sunderland) and Kangaroo Kourt. (Bristol) This ambitious and dynamic project explored artist’s spaces and their work in a ‘big brother’ context. The two groups spent time in each other’s temporary studio/project space in Sunderland and Bristol. Their time making new work in each space was recorded and broadcast over the Internet on a daily basis throughout the residency week using www.youtube.com/rednile. The public were also able to visit the artists working in Gallery204 on Bristol’s Gloucester Road and at rednile’s Project Space in Sunderland at New City Building, 56 Nile St during the residency period. In the Project Space the public were also able to view the amazing ‘Projector Obscurer’ which revealed live video footage of the artists working in a hidden space in the building. This was a rare experience for both artist and audience where the true panorama of creation and the normally ‘hidden’ artists studio environment was open to scrutiny. The artists were on hand and freely available to discuss their work in progress and their thoughts on working in Sunderland and Bristol. The work created was a dynamic mixture of sculpture, drawing, video work and performance. Exhibitions were curated in both spaces and featured new work created during the residency periods. An edited film footage was also be projected in the rednile Project space, serving as a physical impression, or cast, of the artists’ and audiences’ activity.
