re:gen @ Carpet Warehouse, Sunderland

The very first rednile project involved artists activing a former commercial carpet and furniture warehouse during a 3 week residency. The new work was then curated into a group exhibition. rednile invited 3 artists to collaborate with them on this project bridging a link between Sunderland and Newcastle. Both residency and exhibition were held in the same space featuring a large red door on Nile Street, Sunniside, Sunderland, an area undergoing much change and investment during that time. The work created during ‘re:gen’ featured artworks based around the theme of regeneration and inspired the name ‘rednile’

The event was open to the public throughout and was a successful start for rednile, attracting over 150 people to the preview evening and gaining much media coverage.

The project involved many funders and supporters including Arts Council England, Sunniside Regeneration Agency and Sunderland ARC.
