New iconophonic work by composer John Keffala Kerr inspired by Science Factory Night, June 2011.
Building on the success of the pilot Factory Nights programme in 2008, rednile Projects Ltd succeeded in gaining further funding from Arts Council England and Northern Rock Foundation to deliver a more experimental, research based series of Factory Nights over a year long programme in 2009 – 2010.
The programme consisted of seven Factory Nights events across the North East with the addition of a celebratory Factory Folk exhibition and a publication. The programme also saw the introduction of a New Commission/ New Collaboration fund which gave opportunities for all attendees to apply for a bursary to develop work inspired by the Factory Night they attended . Due to the popularity of the programme and interest from local businesses and Local Authorities, further Factory Nights were added to the programme, this included hosting a Factory Night in the West Midlands and Northern Thailand allowing the project to have further reach in terms of geography, funding, support in-kind and artistic engagement.
