'I won the maths prize at school'

September-October 2007

The final project in the New City Programme was planned to give a regional artist, or artist group, time and space to create new work whilst providing an artists residency that was open to the public. James Johnson-Perkins and Conor Lawless collaborated on a series of new works which interacted with the rednile Project Space including mathematical Lego models and complex geometric animations based on mathematical principles. This collaboration between artist and mathematician aimed to express the beauty and wonder within mathematical structures and theories. Johnson-Perkins and Dr Lawless were resident in the Project Space for 2 weeks in October during which time the public were able to visit and speak to the artists. An exhibition was curated at the end of the residency period to showcase the new work produced during the collaboration.
