OpportunitiesGateshead Riverside Park Residency and New Public Art Commissions Who: Opportunity for artists/art groups of all art forms (visual, lighting, performance, multimedia, music, writing, site specific, drawing, sculpture). Regional and national artists of all experience levels are welcome to apply. What: 3 residencies available over winter 2008. Artists are invited to put forward an expression of interest to undertake a residency in relation to Gateshead Riverside Park to develop public artworks for an event in Spring 2009. This can be temporary or permanent. Rednile are looking for artists that work in a wide variety of disciplines and are especially interested in artists wishing to collaborate with other artists/art forms. Artists will undertake a research residency to produce a piece of artwork responding to the park, its history, the users and their stories. It is essential that artists are interested in engaging with the users of the park and groups from the surrounding areas - rednile will source appropriate groups for artists to work with, this could include schools, local community groups, local estates, cyclists and walkers. The residency can be used to test new ideas, research and develop an existing body of work or make new art work. Artists will be supported by and work alongside rednile artists throughout the residency, rednile will work with the selected artists to select artworks and curate the event in Spring 2009.
Where: Gateshead Riverside Park and surrounding area from Dunston Staithes to the Sculpture Park near the Hilton Hotel. Rednile will work with selected artists to choose suitable sites for artworks. Residencies will also have an indoor space nearby to use as a studio/base. (please note the artworks will need to be suitable for an outdoor space) When: Winter 2008 approx 3 months with artwork produced to be part of an event in spring 2009. Residencies will last approximately 10 full days this can be consecutive or part time over the period. Fee: To be negotiated (will be in line with recommended daily fees + material costs) How to apply: To ensure a simple and straight forward selection process, please email a brief statement of interest no more than 200 words and include an artist’s C.V, website if appropriate and full contact details. Call for businesses WHO: Any businesses interested in working with rednile to realise exciting art projects. WHAT: rednile are looking for sponsorship and/or interesting, dynamic new spaces to run art projects from. The spaces can be for temporary or long-term use (events can range from one night only events to month-long artist residencies) and in a habitable state, i.e. complies with basic health and safety. Electricity and water are not essential, as rednile will assess the projects needs. Rednile have worked alongside private business since 2003, many choosing to support rednile on more than one occasion and have managed budgets of over £30000. Direct marketing covers the UK reaching over 2000 individuals and organisations resulting in one-night events attracting an art audience of over 200.
