U-Student property development, boundary design in Newcastle City Centre

rednile artists have looked at the history of broadcasting on the former Tyne Tees Television site which was a venue for music show The Tube, fronted by Jools Holland and Paula Yates and many other famous 1980’s shows. Final designs for the boundary treatment have yet to be drawn up but the artists have used the ‘end of broadcast’ design as a symbolic reference to the end of the sites’broadcasting days whilst incorporating QR codes in the design which will tell the story of the site to the next generation.

A project commissioned by Northern Developments to design a boundary treatment for a new development planned for Newcastle City Centre on the former site of Tyne Tees TV. The development is part of their £25m development which includes a new 139-bedroom hotel, a nine-storey student accommodation tower and a residential block for up to 30 apartments.
